Lake and Pool Use

  • The pool at Camp Rockridge is now a commercial pool and must meet commercial guidelines. There is a direct 911 emergency line tied to the 911 office.  Only staff or adult personnel should use this phone.  The Carroll County Health Department will be inspecting the pool to be sure that it meets these guidelines as well as others.  The pool can be inspected at anytime.  If the inspector finds areas that are not meeting the guidelines he/she can close the pool immediately until such guidelines are met.  A Certified Pool Operator is required.  There is a limit of 75 swimmers in the pools at one time (30 in the small pool).  If your group is larger than this you will need to schedule two (2) pool times.  Swimming at night will require all pool lights working and the bottom of pool clearly visible.  The Camp Director will determine if the pool meets guidelines for night swims.  Swimmers are required to shower before going into the pool.  Food and drinks (other than water in an appropriate plastic container) are not permitted in the pool area.  Cut-off jeans are not permitted in the pool.  Chewing gum is not permitted anywhere in the pool area for health and safety reasons.  Any individual with an open (unhealed) wound, or cut on the skin will not be permitted in the pool.  Any injury occurring in the pool must be reported to a lifeguard or pool supervisor immediately.

  • The diving board is intended for diving only.  Anytime the diving boards are in use all of the diving area must be cleared of all persons other than diver.  No general swimming is permitted in the diving area unless the diving board is closed by staff only.  Only one person is allowed on the diving apparatus (including ladder) at a time.  anyone using the diving board must wait until the preceding diver has surfaced and reached the ladder before climbing on the diving ladder.  Running on the diving board, platform or deck is not permitted.  Serious injuries may result.

  • At the decision of the lifeguard or supervisor on duty, during electrical storms (thunderstorms) patrons must vacate the outdoor pool and seek shelter inside a substantial building.  During storms the outdoor pool will be closed and the entire pool area cleared of patrons.  The pools will not reopen until 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder.

  • Practice healthy swimming habits for public health reasons, standard diapers cannot be worn in the pool.  Infants/children who are not potty trained who wish to enter any pool, must wear a clean diaper or disposable swim diaper covered by separate clean rubber/vinyl bottoms, all of which must fit snuggly around the legs and waist.  If the diaper becomes soiled, this person must exit the pool immediately and may not return until he/she has been given a shower and has been covered by a new diaper with clean rubber/vinyl bottoms.  A swim suit must be worn over the plastic/vinyl bottoms.  Under health department standards, adopted on the recommendation of Centers for Disease Control, accidents involving fecal matter now require longer pool closures (24 hours).  Prevention is far better than contamination, so please follow the CDC's healthy swimming habits: Children and adults who have had diarrhea in the last two weeks shouldn't go swimming.

  • A swim test will be administered by a lifeguard.  The lifeguard will make the swimming approval.  At the instruction of the lifeguard the swimmer jumps into water in the deepest end of the pool and returns to the surface with ease.  The swimmer must tread water for one minute.  The swimmer must swim to the other side of the pool and back without stopping or touching the bottom.  Water wings or floats are not allowed in the big pool.  We will work to have the pool available at all times, howerver due to the new guidelines we cannot make any assurances. Please have other recreation activities planned for when the pool is unavailable.

  • There is NO SWIMMING in the lake.

  • The lake nor the pool may be used without a lifeguard or adult counselor present.  The swimming pool is only available during the summer months.

  • Canoes can only be used under the following conditions:  applicable fees have been paid, permission has been granted by the camp director, adult supervision is present, a lifeguard is on duty and life jackets are to be worn at all times (adults and children).

  • Fishing is only available to overnight guests.  Rockridge maintains a catch and release lake and we ask that all fish be returned to the lake.  Please do not use live minnows as bait.

  • Fishing is prohibited from canoes and/or paddleboats.  No personal boats or flotation divices are permitted on the lake.
